Gloria Mercy is a proud Gumbaynggirr woman, cultural leader, and creative force on the beautiful lands of Gumbaynggirr (Coffs Harbour.) With a deep passion for cultural revitalisation, community connection, and storytelling through movement, Gloria founded Jalay Jalay Dance Troupe, a vibrant and powerful dance troupe that celebrates the spirit and strength of Aboriginal culture.

Jalay Jalay –
“Go Forward”
“Jalay Jalay” means “Go Forward” in Gumbaynggirr language. Our cultural dance is deeply rooted in values that shape who we are.. Connection to Culture, Pride, Respect, Healing, Safety, Community, Belonging, and the Strengthening of mental health through dance.
We also explore different styles of contemporary movement, blending tradition with modern expression in a way that keeps our culture strong, relevant, and alive. Dance is more than expression; it’s how we carry our stories, honour our ancestors, and walk proudly into the future. It’s at the heart of everything we do.
Jalay Jalay Dance Troupe performs at local festivals, community gatherings, schools, and cultural events — always with heart, pride, and purpose.

"Keeping our culture alive and breathing..
Through dance"
It is imperative that we as a community continue to provide opportunities for our young people to flourish individually and as a collective -
